James and Morris Carey, known as The Carey Bros., are third-generation, award winning, licensed general contractors who, as a team, share over 75 years of construction experience and expertise. As general contractors, the Carey Bros, both carpenters by trade, have expanded their technical skills to include exceptional hands-on proficiency in electrical, plumbing, drywall and painting - to name a few. Over the years The Carey Bros. name literally became "a household name" in East Bay remodeling. James says, "It takes almost a lifetime to learn the intricacies of remodeling construction and to earn the trust of the community. I am proud to say that we both continue to strive for these goals and that we enjoy the good health needed to continue." As expert builders and remodelers the brothers have successfully completed hundreds of room additions and thousands of interior and exterior remodels. Morris began contracting "on the side" in 1976 while still working as a subdivision carpenter. In 1978 he opened Carey Construction Co. with a focus on building custom homes. Several years later, during the height of the recession of the 1980's, a colleague asked Morris if he would remodel a friend's pizzeria. The job was tiny, but business was slow, so Morris asked James if he would like to do the project together - hands on. The days of custom homes and subdivision work ended when they realized the beauty in the variety of complex and challenging tasks offered by remodel work. After working side by side for several years James purchased a 50% interest in Carey Construction and in 1984 the name changed to Carey Bros.
